PLAY THERAPY

Play therapy is the most developmentally appropriate method of counseling for children. In play therapy children can express what is troubling them through play when they do not have the verbal language to express their thoughts and feelings. As children mature, traditional talk therapy may be combined with play, expressive arts, or sand tray. Even teens can benefit from appropriate forms of creative expression. Some play therapy models focus on the individual child, while others focus on the parent child relationship or the family as a whole. Various models of play therapy are appropriate for different presenting issues.

I am trained in a variety of developmentally appropriate models to accommodate an array of presenting issues. I am one of the few Registered Play Therapists in the Triad area, which means I have completed extensive training and supervision, specifically in the area of play therapy and working with children.

I work with a range of issues, and am specially trained in and passionate about working with children who struggle with attachment from adoption or foster care.

No child is too young for play therapy.  Even infants and toddlers can benefit from strengthening the parent-child relationship through play or healing of trauma through play therapy.
